Narrowboat Course

We now offer bespoke day and two-day narrowboat courses for those looking to become an owner, are an owner or those that just wish to learn. Our day course could be considered a brilliant “Experience Day” gift!

What is covered in the day course?

  • Basic engine and propulsion gear checks and understanding,
  • Safety and man overboard procedures,
  • Manoeuvring, including casting off, mooring, winding (turning), and heaving to amongst others,
  • Steering and navigation of the canals and rivers including courtesies and basic signalling,
  • Safe Lock operation and courtesies, including single-handed vessels,
  • Rope handling and how to secure mooring ropes, including the use of pins and chains etc,
  • Navigation of rivers.
  • Lunch included

What is covered in the two-day course?

Everything from the one day course plus…

The second day will cover:

  • Understanding how boat systems work including,
  • Freshwater,
  • Domestic electrics,
  • Very basic gas (we would always recommend a gas-safe engineer to alter or fix gas systems),
  • Stoves and solar were applicable,
  • Build and advance on day one’s learning. Gain more confidence with more practical waterway navigation,
  • Lunch included

These courses can either be held on one of our own boats or on your own if you want to gain confidence and understanding of your own vessel (depending on location there may be a charge for travel)

The courses will never be with a class greater than 6 people, they are practical, hands-on on and bespoke to your needs, if you have specific skills and understanding you are looking to gain let us know. We understand that the second day of the course may be more relevant to your needs so this can also be purchased as one day course.
