We love introducing first-time hirers to canal boat holidays! You don’t need any previous experience — and you don’t need a steerer’s licence. Our expert team are here to answer any of your questions, and can help you choose the best boat and routes to suit your needs!
Full training
All our guests are welcomed by our knowledgeable skippers who will take you through your boat’s operational features. All hirers will be accompanied by a skipper for a thorough tutorial — including how to work a lock — to ensure you’re well prepared for your journey. You can also use the videos below to get a flavour of the experience! Use them for a refresher if ever needed.
Our 24/7 Call Out
Everything should go smoothly but we are on call 24/7, even if it’s just for a pub recommendation.
Mooring Up
Moorings are free across the UK’s canal system, so the choice is completely up to you. If you prefer a bit of solitude, tie up at points along the towpath. Or for access to villages (and pubs!) you can find designated moorings that include bollards and tying rings.

Who is it for?
- You can bring the whole family, we are child friendly. We recommend all children wear a life jacket on board.
- We will do our best to accommodate people with accessibility needs, so don’t be afraid to get in touch about any requirements.
- We welcome all family pets on our boats.
Facilities on board
- Bathrooms: shower cubicle, sink, toilet.
- Kitchens: oven, hob, grill, kettle.
- Linens: towels, tea towels, bedding are all included.
Misc: TV, electric sockets, heating.
What to bring
- Bring your own groceries, food and drinks so you’re ready to go onboard. (Tea, coffee and washing up liquid is included).
- Toiletries not provided. (Toilet roll is included).
- Sensible footwear for the boats and locks.
Things to know
- We are located in Leeds, on the Leeds-Liverpool canal, at the epicentre of the Northern Waterways.
- You have private parking for the week included.
- All fuel is included.
- A refundable damage waiver is charged upon arrival.
- Everything should go smoothly, but if you need any help, we provide a 24/7 call out service whilst you are onboard.
